‘Stamps of the Games’ Competition | |||||||||||||
Congratulations to the winners of our recent ‘stamp hunt’. We were amazed how resourceful members were, in finding stamps to represent sports competed for at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. We enjoyed looking through the entries, but did have a chuckle at times, China, Japan and even the USA featured as Commonwealth countries ! The winner was Lydia Williams of Inglewood, who managed to find 15 different sports from 11 different countries.
Lydia included 9 stamps not featured on any other entry ~ 35 points.
Winners received either Lighthouse stockbooks, NZPost jigsaw puzzles or ACS catalogues. All entrants received blocks of the KSC Games CALs. |

It is with personal sadness, that we record the sudden death and loss of Dave Reasbeck. Dave was not only a keen supporter of the Kiwi but a good friend, having recently supervised the rebuilding of our carport and the relaying of our driveway. His enthusiasm for stamp collecting will be missed by his many friends in the clubs he belonged to.We thank him for his support and friendship. |

Personal Notes |

In March, we made our ‘annual pilgrimage’ to Christchurch, to spend time with family and compete in the Agnes Dick croquet tournament. This year David (and partner) received the Runner Up trophies – this was particularly meaningful as these trophies had been donated by his grandmother, over 30 years ago. Jan has been active on the Auckland scene where she has taken on the role of President for the Auckland Croquet Association. Our orchids had a quiet year and seemed to follow the national trend of less than half the usual number of blooms. It has been suggested that this is a result of the higher than normal temperatures last summer, which is when the plants decide to flower - or not ! We both took ‘time-out’ for physical renewal, during the year. In August, Jan had a hip replacement, and in October David received a new knee and now feels in danger of becoming the ‘Bionic Man’! Hopefully we will both be back |
